I’m happy to see this article in the P-I this morning. We already live in a small cottage (built in 1947) and watch with interest (and a little horror) when a two- or three-story monstrosity goes up in the middle of a row of houses just like ours, completely out of character with the neighborhood. [...]

This article, of course, caught my eye. Not very Washington-state-centric though there is a nod to Whidbey Island in there. The photo above was taken when we stayed at Iron Springs Resort on Copalis Beach. The setting is such that it makes up for less-than-stellar accomodations. (See the TripAdvisor reviews for more.) The beach is [...]

Our gal Tula at Whorange had a recent post on a group of “Oriental Serenade” paint-by-numbers by Adam Grant. I was amused, since one of them is actually hanging above my kitchen sink. It looks like it even has the same frame — did paint-by-number kits come with frames? I am old enough that I [...]

I do not understand the art of latte foam in the least. I don’t even understand lattes! I just like them made for me and handed over hot and fresh, with several napkins. (If I had been a character in an old Bounty commercial, my appearance onscreen would have been foreshadowed with, “Uh-oh, here comes [...]

Just a quick post about how much I love Aline Crumb. I mean, look at her! love the collaborations she and her husband do for The New Yorker and I love her unrelenting craziness and style. (And yes, I also love their kitchen.) This is the lady I want to be when I grow up…I [...]

Velocity, you have worked your way further into my squirrel-lovin’ heart! New work by artist Mareike Auer has it all: offbeat charm, modern lines, amusing subject matter, a great cost (Twenty bucks!!) and squirrels. This print is called “The Story About Me and the Squirrel.” Love it!

And if you have a little tyke in your [...]

My friends Dorian and Aaron built a deck using plexiglass panels as part of the floor. It lets light through to the yard below, but it also allows lights from below to shine up at night. A very cool effect. I think it deserves more notice so read more if you’re so inclined!

(Yes, that’s a photo of a previous Lab, sue me, I don’t have a time machine to get a photo of tonight’s event.)
It’s a given that I’m at The Lab at Velocity whenever I can be. Tonight (6-8 pm at the Yale Ave. location across from REI) is especially good as it features the writers [...]
